SPECIAL QUALITIES: Barlow Black is an unusual and charming, purple-black, double flowered columbine that holds its flowers upwards. The clover-like leaves are attractive when the plant is not in flower.
FLOWERS: The flowers are produced in late spring.
PLANTS NEEDED PER SQUARE METRE: 5-6
HABIT: A clump forming perennial which produces a cluster of attractive leaves and lovely flowers on strong stems. Dies back over winter and shoots away in early spring.
POSITION & USES: Columbines will grow well in sun or light shade in normal garden soil. Plant in blocks or drifts among other spring flowering perennials.
CULTIVATION: Incorporating organic matter into the soil will be beneficial. Cut to the ground during winter to promote fresh spring growth.
FERTILISING: Regular applications of Seasol and Power Feed during spring summer will keep it looking its best.
